she was unable to come up with anything to say as she cried. her ears were ringing and it felt as though she were underwater. the girl’s breathing hitched in her throat between sobs that left her a wreck. angelica tightened her grasp, holding her brother for both stability and sanity. she felt a sharp pang of fire and gasped softly before another heat flash tore through her and took her under. the girl silenced, swayed for a second, and collapsed.

_{he didn’t realize what was happening until angelica was crumbling to the floor. fortunately his meager strength prevented her from falling all at once && banging her head terribly hard, but the eight year old couldn’t catch her entirely. it was horrifying, seeing her limp on the ground, && he was entirely frozen where he stood. what had happened to her ? what should he do ? was she… no, no of course she wasn’t, she probably just fainted – he had read a few books where women fainted when something terrible happened, surely that was all it was. john knelt beside her, furiously shaking her shoulder with both hands in an attempt to get her to stir. ❝—- dad ! ❞ it was the loudest his voice had ever gotten, he was sure. ❝—- mama, dad, something’s wrong with angie ! ❞}
